Agnes Holley Hull was born on December 21, 1928, in Blountstown, Florida. The only child of Nathaniel
and Mary Holley, Agnes excelled at an early age in music, especially piano. This would eventually define a career dedicated to music education, performing and teaching. She graduated from Bay County High School, in Panama City, Florida and Treveca University in Nashville, Tennessee. During her high school and college careers, she played for churches, community groups, recording sessions, and musical ensembles. She also studied and taught at the Vaughan School of Music in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. In the early 1950’s, she played piano and toured professionally The Sullivan Family, a gospel group from Nashville.
In the late 1940s, she met and later married a young minister, John Eben Hull from Jamestown, Tennessee. After their ceremony in 1950, the two became a popular ministry team serving churches with evangelism and music throughout the South. Eventually, they formed a gospel music group called The Joymakers.
They launched their married lives in Gadsden, Alabama in 1951. Over the years, as their ministry grew, they would relocate to Jackson, Mississippi, in 1964 and Marietta, Georgia, in 1972.
As her family grew, she traveled less frequently. Wherever Agnes lived, she privately taught piano. Her reputation as a teacher would quickly spread. A longtime member of the Cobb County Music Teachers Association, she eventually retired in the early 2000’s. Through the decades, she played in a large number of churches and also taught music in several Christian schools.
Agnes was a musical artist, faithful wife and a loving mother. She is predeceased by her husband John and is survived by her daughter Jo Hull Minor, son John David Hull, daughter-in-law, Sharon, two grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren.
