Clyde William "Bill" Croyle

Clyde William “Bill” Croyle, 85, of Rapid City, SD went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2023.  Bill was born on June 27,1938, in Summerhill, PA.  Bill was the third child of four boys born to Harold Luther Croyle and Ruby Leonora (Engle) Croyle.

After high school, Bill enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and worked at Bethlehem Steel Johnstown, PA.

On June 20, 1957, Bill married Charlotte Irene Fabo in Ehrenfeld, PA in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.  To this union, they were blessed with six children: Mary Therese (Bret) Shanklin of Custer, SD, Paula (Curtis) Hecker of Winfield, KS, Patty (Mike) Olson of Cheektowaga, NY, Leanora (Rick) Rupp of Spearfish, SD, William (Lea) Croyle of Jamestown, TN, Carol Jacques of Rapid City, SD.

In 1971, Bill and Charlotte relocated their family to South Dakota in pursuit of work.  On June 9, 1972, their lives changed after Rapid City had received 15 inches of rain.  With Bill’s military training he helped search for survivors and helped in the rescue efforts.  Bill worked at Barber Transportation and South Dakota Concrete Products.  Bill and Charlotte later moved into his home in the beautiful Black Hills.  In the fall of 2021, Bill moved to Jamestown, TN, where he lived the remainder of his years with his son.

Bill loved his family with all his heart. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, getting firewood, and had a great passion to dance.  Bill and Charlotte spent many evenings dancing; they were the perfect pair.  He also enjoyed watching the Elk in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, his parents, Harold and Ruby, and his brothers, Allen, Ronald, and Charles.  Bill is survived by his six children, twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting for memorials to be given to Clyde William Croyle Memorial with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation of South Dakota.

Interment will be held on a later date, in Rockerville, SD at the Rockerville Cemetery.
