Dorothy Lee Davis Reagan was born August 29, 1941 and was raised in Southern Ohio. She was the daughter of Ray and Marjorie (Winkle) Davis. Dorothy often attributed her love of reading to her memories of sitting on her father’s lap and listening to him read his books to her as a very young child. Another memory she spoke fondly of was how her mom made the best pie crusts ever. She always wanted to learn but never understood how much a pinch of this and a pinch of that was. Dorothy met the love of her life, Jim Reagan while working in Dayton. Jim was employed by Dayton Power and Light and their paths were destined to cross. While in Dayton, Jim and Dorothy welcomed two daughters before moving to beautiful Allardt Tennessee. Soon they completed their family with another baby girl.
Dorothy began attending college working toward a teaching degree. Between keeping children in her home, building a house and teaching at Tinch Elementary, she was able to finally acquire her licenses and she continued her legacy as a Fentress County Educator at Allardt Elementary. She touched numerous young people’s lives both as a math teacher and a life teacher.
Soon the girls grew up and brought home the icing on the cake with grandchildren. She acquired the coveted title of Dorty and that was the title she adored most.
Dorothy had a strong faith that she held quietly but fiercely. Every name on her heart was lifted in prayer every day without fail.
Dorothy loved her family passionately; they truly were her world. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and spending time with friends. She also had a compassion for animals, especially the ones that wandered over from her neighbors. Her family and friends who knew her well knew at any time needed, she could solve most of their problems with an all night talk and a good cold Pepsi. Looking back through the memories, it is abundantly clear that her life was full as well as her heart.
Dorothy leaves behind her husband Jim, brother Richard Davis and wife Rita, sister Joyce Polly and husband Bill. Sister-in-law Agnes Davis. Daughters Sheri Burnette and husband Hal, Debra Pritchett and husband Kim, Cathy Fancher and husband Houston. Grandchildren Reagan Edwards and husband Dallas, Davis Hendricks, Hayden Fancher, Ethan Fancher, Cameron Fancher, Courtney Gibson and husband Travis, Lyndsey Hilligoss and husband Noah. Great-grandchildren Deacon Gibson, Scarlett Gibson and soon to be Asher Edwards. A host of nieces and nephews sprinkled from coast to coast and numerous friends that were all dear to her heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Marjorie Davis, and brother Danny Davis.
In honor of Dorothy’s love of reading, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fentress County Imagination Library. Donations can be left at Mundy’s Funeral Home or to your local Imagination Library.
Visitation will be Monday, February 20th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at Mundy Funeral Home in Jamestown with funeral service beginning at 6:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Allardt Cemetery in a private burial. The service will also be visible on the Mundy’s Funeral Home Facebook page.
