James Dunford

James Denny Dunford, of Jamestown TN passed away on Saturday August 22, 2020 after reaching the age of 85 years old.   After a short period of failing health, he died peacefully within his daughter’s home surrounded by family.

James, affectionately known as Jay, was born January 22, 1935 in Jamestown, TN to Ruby Stevens and Samuel Roy Dunford. As a boy he was raised by his grandparents Cora and Marshall Dunford where he raised chickens to earn money.

As an incredibly young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself. He married and had 5 children and was a Forest Ranger at the Allardt Fire Tower for 15 years.  After that he moved into the construction industry and built hospitals where he traveled and lived in various states to include New Mexico, Florida, and Tennessee.  Later in life he retired and spent time traveling between his children’s homes and his cousin's home (Ed and Betty.)  

He was a strong patriarch for his family, a good friend, and a man who would give his shirt for his family or a friend. Many know him to be a man of few words, however those words were influential and significant. Jay was a good father, grandfather and great grandfather who preached honesty and that all are humble and equally created in God’s eyes.

He is preceded in death by his parents (Roy Dunford, Ruby Stevens), his brother (Charles Dunford), his sister (Ruth Galapon), and his daughter (Sandra Ramey).

He is survived by his children (Shelia Roddy and husband Tony, Susan Wills and husband Kirk, Stan Dunford and wife Trish, Stewart Dunford and wife Sheila), his sisters (Reba, Lois), his brother (Sammy Joe), 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 1 P.M. at the Mundy Funeral Home in Jamestown, with burial to follow in the Tinch Cemetery

Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 11 A.M. - 1 P.M. at the Mundy Funeral Home in Jamestown
