Patricia Doyle Shadden died March 16, 2025, at the age of 88. She was living with
her daughter in Jamestown, TN, at the time of her death.
Mrs. Shadden was born in Chattanooga on Feb. 22, 1937. She moved with her
parents James and Grace Doyle and her brother Jim to Ooltewah in 1949 and lived
most of her life there. She was a graduate of Ooltewah High School and
Tennessee Wesleyan College and received her master’s degree from the
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Mrs. Shadden was a teacher for more than 25 years, primarily teaching
kindergarten and first grade. Whenever she ran into one of her students, they
inevitably told her “You were my favorite teacher!” She devoured books; even her
bathroom had bookshelves. She was a student of history, particularly of the Civil
War. She loved the beach. She was a baseball fan, with a lifelong devotion to the
Brooklyn Dodgers (particularly Duke Snider). She was a country music fan. Before
her death, one of the last things she would ask for was to listen to George Strait.
She was of the United Methodist faith.
Mrs. Shadden is survived by two daughters, Janet Coats and Christine Bridges;
one son, Chip Shadden; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family would welcome shared memories of Patricia during a gathering on
Friday, March 28, in the West Community Room at Collegedale City Hall, 4910
Swinyar Dr., Ooltewah. Visitors are welcome to come any time between 4 p.m.
and 6:30 p.m.
