Vergie Ann King was born September 16, 1949 in Fentress County and died March 26, 2022 following a brief illness. She was a member of Cooper’s Chapel Church and attended Jamestown First Baptist Church. She loved the Lord.
A proud native of Fentress County, she lived her entire life here.
She is the daughter of Delmer M. and Cordie Cooper King. She has three sisters, Phyllis (Dennis) More of Monrovia, California, Demple (Marvin) Weaver of Jamestown, and Brenda (Nick) Wright of Knoxville; three nieces, Melissa (David), Valerie (Matthew), and Denise (Quang), and two nephews, Douglas and David.
She will be missed by her sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends, although she will be at home in heaven beside her mother. Vergie wanted everyone to know “I will love my family forever. I loved my mother most of all.”
She had many friends whom she loved. She had a great friend, Jerry Campbell, whom she loved and admired: He gave his life in Vietnam.
One of Vergie’s special gifts was serving others, whether running errands for those impacted by COVID, sharing what she had with those less fortunate, or bringing coffee to others to brighten their day. Vergie’s friends will remember that she always had a smile on her face.
Vergie enjoyed all her jobs–at Wright’s Store, in a beauty shop as a licensed cosmetologist, and as an elementary educator, retiring after thirty years of service.
The family will receive friends Thursday night, March 31st from 5 to 7 pm at Mundy Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday, April 1st at 1 pm at Mundy Funeral Home. There will be no public graveside service.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Vergie’s wishes as a lifelong educator, the family requests donations be directed to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library: Fentress County. Donations may be given at Mundy Funeral Home, Union Bank, or mailed to Friends of Fentress County Imagination Library/UCHRA, 308 Main Street South, Suite 101, Jamestown, TN 38556.
For the visitation and funeral, face masks will be required to protect Vergie’s relatives who are in fragile health. For those unable to honor this request, the family will receive condolences by phone.
